Meet the Farmers: Hiro Honma
This post is also available in: Japanese
Chris: Hello, Chris from blue belt life and I’m here at the Ginza Farmers Market with my friend, the one and only, Hiro-san. Hiro, thanks for taking the time to speak with us today.
Hiro: Thank you.
Chris: Could you tell us a little bit about the products you’re selling?
Hiro: Yes, I have the best soy products. So, soy sauce, natto (made from soybeans). We also carry high quality eggs.
Chris: I’m glad you mentioned the natto because I’m a huge fan of your organic natto. Could you tell us the story about this product?
Hiro: OK, this is real natto. See this, this is straw. Maybe you know the small packs in the supermarket. It’s actually quite different. The supermarket uses bacteria cultured in factories. But this uses natural natto bacteria flying in the air. Then these move into the straw, and from the straw to the soybeans, to make natto. So it is quite different.
Chris: Now, do you need any soy sauce or anything?
Hiro: No, I don’t think so, because the soybeans are so wonderful. If you taste it, “Ohh, my goodness!” Because the beans are good. It’s that kind of taste. The beans are good on their own. Give it a try!
Chris: Definitely come down to the market and try; this is the best natto in the world. How about the eggs, what is the story behind your eggs?
Hiro: This egg is made by natural brown rice and organic plants, which means the chickens eat this kind of natural food. So the taste is very soft, very soft.
Chris: I know from personal experience that these are the best eggs, certainly to eat raw, I wouldn’t trust any other eggs. Hiro-san, do you have any last message for fans or potential customers?
Hiro: (laughs) Yes, our products are the best and the natural ingredients we use are the best, so the taste is wonderful. That’s it!
Chris: Thank you Hiro-san. That’s definitely right. I encourage you all to come down and see – the best organic natto in the world, the best eggs at this market. And, meet the man Hiro-san. So come on down. Visit the Ginza Farmers Market next weekend.
